Wildseed Cafe, A Newly Open Cafe in Singapore! (2019)

Sunday Brunch @ Wildseed Cafe, Alkaff Mansion

Episode 4

Theme: Floral Cafe

Ambience:

Today (April 21, 2019) is the opening of the second branch of Wildseed cafe, we are intrigued and excited in our visit!

Wildseed cafe is situated in a 100 year old Alkaff Mansion in outskirts of Singapore. This colonial house is formerly owned by a Middle-Eastern family back in the 1900s as a weekend house. During world war II the house was abandoned and the Japanese took over. In 1970-1980 it became Buddhist Society Headquarter.  In 2004 the Singapore government took the property. It is presently run by a private company operating chains of bars and cafes around Singapore.

They preserve the shelter of the mansion and only renovated the interior part. It is elegantly designed with sophisticated furniture and decors. The place is comfortable, spacious and airy.

You have an option for a relaxing Al fresco dining.

The second floor is currently under renovation and will soon be open as Spanish Tapas Bar. (May 2019)

This place can be rent for private occasions. (e.g. weddings, birthdays etc.)

The ground boasts a huge courtyard which will host different events such as wine festivals, food festivals and outdoor movie screenings.

Colourful house in Little India

Adventure @ Little India

Adventure Episode 2

Stumbled upon a quaint little house in Little India, also known as THE HOUSE OF TAN TENG NIAH. This property truly stands out in a busy vicinity as it is situated in a commercial area. It is definitely a must visit landmark for photography enthusiasts.

Built in 1900, this house is the last surviving Chinese villa in Little India. The architectural design is influenced by Chinese and European style. Owned by a prominent Chinese businessman, he built this eight-room house for his wife. It has been restored in the 1980s for commercial use. The Indian community is responsible for re-painting the house using rainbow colours making it a psychedelic piece of art. It is now known as one of the most popular tourist spots in Singapore.

Brunch at The Wheeler’s Yard

Sunday Brunch Episode 2

Theme: Bicycle Themed Cafe

Ambience:

We thought we’d lost our way when we got there. The place looks unusual for a cafe location. For a split second, we thought it’s closed. We had to walk further on the side of the building to look for the entrance..

The Wheeler’s yard cafe

The Wheeler’s yard cafe

Where is the cafe? Literally, we just saw a bicycle workshop..

The Wheeler’s yard cafe

Until we saw this door and finally found The Wheeler’s Yard Cafe!

You would expect a cozy cafe for your Sunday brunch as it is the norm, but The Wheeler’s Yard is a different story. It’s a bit rugged and informal but quite frankly, we find it cool!

The place is huge, high ceiling with industrial style decorations. They have massive tables for sharing (with bicycle displays on top). It’s an open dining concept, so if you like your personal space while enjoying your coffee and food, you might feel uncomfortable here.

It’s also family and pet-friendly cafe.

Food:

(what we have)

Ultimate Beef Yard Burger (S$27.90)

The Australian wagyu is juicy and tasty, bacon is not so crispy, home made sauce is good too. The fries could still improve.

Homemade Buttermilk Waffle (15.90)

Huge serving, not so sweet so we liked it. Vanilla ice cream is just average.

Brunch at Merci Marcel

Sunday Brunch Episode 1

Theme: French Cafe

Ambience:

Bonjour!

Sunday is quite a busy day at Merci Marcel. We have to wait 10-15 minutes to be seated. (Yes, they don’t accept table reservations only walk-in customers)

It was a pleasant surprise when we got inside. It has a very cozy atmosphere. I’d say a reminiscent of a Parisian wine bar with a tropical twist. It has eclectic furniture and decor.

They have tables outside for people who prefer alfresco dining, one facing the street and another one inside the garden.
